Prayer of Approach, Confession and The Lord’s Prayer
Revd Dr Sandy Forsyth
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the
power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Introduction to the Life and Ministry of John Ross

Reading Isaiah 6:1 - 8
Read in Korean by Donghyuk Kim - Ross Chapel
and then in English by Charles Garland - Mayfield Salisbury
A Vision of God in the Temple
6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high
and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. 2 Seraphs were in
attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their
faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 And
one called to another and said:
‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.’
4 The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and
the house filled with smoke. 5 And I said: ‘Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a
man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes
have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’ 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to
me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of
tongs. 7 The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: ‘Now that this has
touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.’ 8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will
go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’

Anthem - Behold how good and joyful a thing
Chamber Group of Mayfield Salisbury
Words: from Psalm 133
Music: John Clarke-Whitfield (1770-1836)
Behold how good and joyful a thing it is for brethern to dwell together in
unity. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down unto
the beard, even unto Aaron's beard, and went down to the skirts of his
clothing. It is like the dew of Hermon which fell upon the hill of Sion, for
there the Lord promised his blessing and life for evermore.
Reading Matthew 28:1 - 10; 16 - 20
Read in Korean by Ji-Won Song - Edinburgh Korean Church
and then in English by Charles Garland - Mayfield Salisbury
The Resurrection of Jesus
After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And suddenly
there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from
heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was
like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him the guards
shook and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, ‘Do
not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.
6 He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where
he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the
dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see
him.” This is my message for you.’ 8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear
and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them and
said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and
worshipped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell
my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’…
The Commissioning of the Disciples
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus
had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some
doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and
on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have
commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

TODAYS CHOIR MUSIC The text of the intro it is an adaptation of the
Aaronic Blessing. It is set to an original Chinese tune adapted by I-to-Loh
and arranged for four-part choir by our Chamber Group member Stuart
Murray Mitchell. The composer of the anthem, John Clarke-Whitfield, was
organist at Hereford Cathedral and a Professor of music at Cambridge. His
large body of choral music is now rarely performed, but this anthem is a
well-crafted and inventive text setting. The central section is for bass solo
and soprano duet, flanked by sections for the whole choir.
