The congregation moved from Cowgate Chapel to Infirmary Street in 1856.

The building, a few doors down from Lady Yesters Church, was built in 1821 for Professor Paxton's congregation but was subsequently the home of the Protestant Institute. The cost to purchase the building was £1500.

The Infirmary Street Church was limited is size and potential so a new building was opened in 1897 at Fountainhall Road in the developing are of Mayfield.

The Infirmary Street building still stands, although much altered. It is now used as offices.
